Common Ground

Common Ground pairs our Matcha, a spring harvest matcha from a single producer in Shizuoka, Japan, with Hojicha, its roasted sibling. Matcha is fresh, vibrant and naturally slightly sweet. Hojicha takes that same green tea leaf and roasts it into something warm, toasty and naturally sweet.
Matcha is smooth, naturally sweet and low in bitterness, built around a careful blend of varietals for balance rather than sharpness. Hojicha has the opposite character: nutty, toasted and naturally sweet in its own right, with all the depth that roasting gives the leaf.
1 x 30g Matcha Tin and 1 x 30g Hojicha Tin.
Both teas come from the same single producer in Shizuoka, Japan. Common ground in name as well as origin, amazing what a little roast can do.

How To Prep

How to Brew

2-3g Scoop
80° Boiling Water
2 Minutes
Getting your paste right is the foundation of any drink you might make, hot or cold. Start with 2g of powder (which you might increase to 3g if you’re a big fan of the flavour you're chasing) and whisk in around 80ml of water. The key here is to whisk widely and gently for about a minute, until you get a smooth, silken bubble foam on top.

Brewing Tip

Note with care that water temperature; boiling water is truly the enemy of any green tea, even when it's roasted. If you want a stronger drink, just use a touch more powder, rather than using hot water, and if you notice separation as you drink your latte, just give it a stir.

Shizuoka Matcha Green Tea & Shizuoka Hojicha, both from Spring Harvest 2025

Origins

Common Ground brings together our bright, grassy matcha and its rounder, warmer sibling, hojicha. Both a part of the same spring harvest from a single producer in Shizuoka, Japan. The matcha is young, shade-covered and picked early, giving it a bold green colour and a distinctive, tannin-led strength that comes through in a latte or over ice without ever turning bitter. Hojicha takes those same leaves and roasts them into something altogether more familiar, a gentle way in for black tea drinkers exploring tea lattes. It works beautifully with milk, hot or iced.
