Kenyan Tea

4.8
Rated 4.8 out of 5 stars

Only a tiny amount of Kenyan tea meets our rolled whole leaves standard. East of the Rift Valley is where you find it. Cooler conditions and higher elevations are ideal for the rich, honeysuckle notes to develop. It takes milk really well too. So give it a glug if that's your preference.
Strong & Toasty
Perfectly paired with a freshly baked cookie. Stem ginger and triple chocolate are both winners.

How To Brew

How to Brew

1 Scoop
100° Boiling Water
3-5 Minutes
400ml is perfect for 5g of loose leaf tea. If you're using a tea bag, 300ml is bang on.

Brewing Tip

Your tea will start tasting bitter if it’s left to brew for too long so if you fancy a stronger cup, add some more tea leaves.

Origins

We've gone East of the Rift Valley where the small holders grow some of the nicest rolled whole leaves you can find. Cooler conditions and higher elevations are ideal to let the rich, honeysuckle notes develop. This one is an amazing everyday tea. Strong, toasty and it takes milk really well. Give it a good glug if that's how you like it.

    Lovely rounded brew

We now prefer this to the English Breakfast (also fab). This has a lovely rounded taste without being bitter, don't brew for too long.

Hey Rich, I am thrilled to hear Kenyan has stolen the top spot, especially with such strong competition from our English Breakfast ;-)

    Happy brewing,

    Clean, bright brew

This is a lovely fresh tasting black tea, less astringent than most and ideal for drinking without milk. (And other people tell me it’s great with a splash of milk too).

    Hi Susan,

Thank you for the feedback. Our whole leaves make for a less astringent brew. Nice and clean with no bitterness or dust.

A taste of Kenya in a cup

I was pleased to see an African tea being offered by the Brew Tea Company as I had been looking to expand my pallet outside of India (Assam) and Sri Lanka (Ceylon).

What a fantastic surprise this tasty tea was! So refreshing - I often have ig as a pick me up in the early afternoon after a mornings work. The leaves found in this tea are from the highland regions of Kenya and taste sublime. The colour when brewed is also fantastic - almost the red of the “redbush” variety of leaf but the taste is certainly still all black tea. Brew for between 3 or 5 minutes (I brew for 5) to achieve the taste you want. The complex flavours ooze out of every drop. To me it tastes sweeter than the teas from South East Asia and certainly go well with a chocolate or a biscuit. Once again a taste supreme! How the leaves are sourced amazes me - an excellent experience in every crop produced!

We love to hear you've been exploring beyond the usual Assam and Ceylon Stephen! The Kenyan Tea really is the perfect afternoon pick me up.

5 minutes brewing time sounds ideal to really bring out all those strong and toasty flavours. I love how you were able to pick up on the slightly sweeter profile compared to the South East Asian teas. Tea and a chocolate biscuit sounds perfect to me :)

So glad you're enjoying this taste of Kenya!

    Happy brewing
