Afternoon tea: Not just for cakes.

We’re not ones for novelty themed weeks, we didn’t even shout an awful lot about National Tea Week - {every week is a tea week for us, don’t you know?}, but we felt like we had to break our silence on this one - the thing is, all of this talk of “the wackiest afternoon teas in the world” and “the perfect afternoon teas” seems to skip over one key component.

WON’T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE TEA?!

Afternoon Tea

In a study of 33 afternoon tea reviews conducted by, well - us, tea itself was only mentioned six times. And when it was mentioned, we’re talking about a passing remark to say “this afternoon tea is served with tea”.

We get it. It’s natural to be more excited about mille feuille and macaroons when you’re used to being served a paper tea bag in a porcelain pot - but let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater here. Afternoon tea can be better, we can talk about the tea at a higher rate than a mere 18%, and we would be doing if only afternoon tea always meant you being served a proper pot of whole leaf, malty, comforting, delicious English Breakfast.
